Fix for slow Google Chrome starting up

It’s been a while that I noticed my Google Chrome starting up really slow. Launching it was quick but I had to wait for 15 seconds or so before my launch screen shows up and before I can start browsing.

I thought it was my ancient PC acting up already but then again, using Chrome the second time around was quick. It’s only when my PC comes from a reboot or restart that this Chrome slowness shows up.

After doing some googling, I finally found the answer. It’s my anti-virus’ firewall! I’m using Norton 360 but this also happens with other anti-virus programs out there.

What you need to do is hunt the Firewall setting on your anti-virus. There should be something like Program Rules that sets the Firewall to kick in every time a program is launched for the first time.

All you need to do is set it to allow Google Chrome. After doing this, Google Chrome was back to its spiffy self with little to no loading time for the homescreen.

This solution doesn’t only apply to Google Chrome. It also works with Firefox or other programs that connects to the internet like instant messengers, etc.
